The Continentals struck early with a 2nd minute goal by winger Brady McDonald, much setting the tone for the rest of the match.
The Lions equaled the score in the 21st minute by former 1776 trialist Tavish-Zauser Mannes, but Peter Luthi countered for 1776 no less than a minue later as he convered on his first of many chances.
The rest of the first saw the Continentals control possession but fail to convert on any chances and the two sides entered the break with 1776 leading 2-1.
The two former Morristown 1776 players, brothers Scott and Brian DeMarco and former 1776 trialist Tavish Zauser-Mannes much added to the intenisty of this match up as both sides fought hard in the second half.
At around the 70 minute mark, assistant manager Ryan Vinton, filling in for manager Claudio Cristao, moved to a more defensive lineup trying to hold off the Lions. With the wings of the Continentals normal 4-1-2-2-1 playing deeper more towards the midfield, Morristown held off constant attacks for Hanover and held on for the 2-1 victory.
The Continentals next play Lake Parsippany Raiders, Friday June 6th 9pm at Jannarone Field in Parsippany.
